SouthStars FAQ

  • Who is the SouthStars Soccer Club?

The SouthStars Soccer Club is a thriving youth soccer organization dedicated to nurturing young talent and promoting a passion for the sport. With a strong focus on skill development and teamwork, the club provides a supportive environment for aspiring athletes to grow both on and off the field.

  • How is club soccer different than rec soccer?

The key distinction between club soccer and recreational soccer lies in their level of competitiveness and structure. Club soccer typically involves more competitive play, higher-level coaching, and organized leagues, while recreational soccer is more focused on casual play and enjoyment for all skill levels without the same level of competition or formal coaching.

  • What is the cost?

Pricing can be found on our pricing page here.

  • Where do we practice?

    Medlar Soccer Complex

    Field Map Link

4350 Medlar Rd, Miamisburg, OH 45342

  • What is the time commitment?

Children typically participate in three events per week, although there are instances when this number may rise due to weekend tournaments.

  • What tournaments can I expect?

We strive to provide opportunities that are both age appropriate and sensitive to the demands of work and family life. At the younger ages, teams attend two tournaments in the fall and two in the spring. All tournaments are LOCAL. As teams get older, age appropriate tournament selection could involve some travel. Some coaches may choose to do more tournament’s but only in consultation and input from families.

  • Is winter training required?

The fees encompass winter training, which includes options for field rental during practices, indoor soccer, or participation in a futsal league. However, attendance during the winter sessions is not mandatory.

  • Do SouthStars players participate in other sports?

Absolutely! We do ask that Soccer is primary in the Fall.

  • What is the expectation for soccer participation when participating in other sports?

Participation in winter trainings/seasons is voluntary, but for the spring season, we encourage parents to collaborate with the coach to establish availability as early as possible.

  • How often are uniforms changed?

Uniforms are on a 2 year rotation.

  • What are the typical uniform costs?

The coach determines which kits to purchase but this will typically range from $150 to $230. This does not include optional items such as bags or jackets.

  • Who are our coaches?

In order to maintain affordability compared to other clubs, our coaching staff is entirely composed of volunteers. These volunteers undergo a thorough interview process and are mandated to acquire at least an F-level Soccer coaching license through the Ohio Soccer Association, with background checks conducted for all coaches.

Yes, everyone must register and attend at least one tryout date.

  • Can I check out the club before tryouts?

Yes. Parents and players are welcome to watch games (all our calendars are public and linked on our Teams pages). If you would like to request to join a training session before tryouts, please contact us through the contact us page or at [email protected].

  • How long do I have to decide if I want to accept a spot with the club?

You can certainly have some time to talk as family about whether to accept a spot or not. Recognize that we may offer more players than we have spots, in which case the first players to accept and pay their deposit will be the ones to keep their spots.

  • What leagues will we play in?

We will play in the MVYSA or the Buckeye Premier League.

  • Who can I contact if I have other questions?

Please use the contact us page or email us at [email protected].

  • What sets us apart from the large clubs?

Our small soccer club stands out from larger, more expensive clubs in several ways. We prioritize individual player development with a more personalized coaching approach, fostering a sense of community and camaraderie among our members. Additionally, we offer a more cost-effective option for families who want quality soccer training without the hefty price tag associated with larger clubs.

  • How important is player development?

SouthStars SC places a strong emphasis on player development within our intimate club setting. Our dedicated club trainers begin working with players as early as the U11 age group, with the objective of not only preparing them for high school soccer but also nurturing leadership qualities.
